Paul Dolan and Julie Wittich were summoned by Michael Gove to a meeting to address ongoing issues at Old Dean in Surrey Heath on 17th March 2023. Promises of improvement were, yet again, made.

Feelings are reflected by a couple of facebook posts by residents in response to that meeting.

Am disabled and pensioner and have been waiting 11 months for my floor to be fixed. I am classed as vulnerable so I dread to think how long ordinary people wait for repairs , nothing will change !!!

It will all be pointless and we will all be left with the same rubbish houses!

It is a never ending shambles!

Accent Housing 'rebrand' every two years without success and the times that promises to 'improve' are promulgated are infinite. Those problems retired cllr Paul Deach addressed three years ago remain.

You can change the packaging but the contents remain the same.

Clare Stone Director of Customer Services resigned last year stating that Accent are 'missing the point' and service provision is merely a 'tick box' excercise. The CEO Paul Dolan is quitting in May of this year.

Residents at Old Dean are not fools. Accent Housing's first priority is to ensure their viability and to protect the reputation of that organisation.

Your local representatives really need to get to grips with these problems.

A recent meeting organised by the South Residents Group had to be cancelled due to the strong feelings presented to Accent Staff not aided by an attempted intervention by local councilors. One resident summed it up:

'Quite frankly I'm not surprised people are so angry. Accent are an absoute joke.'

The latest statement from Cllr Shaun Garrett (7th Feb, 2024):

'I am just catching up on all this. I have emailed the relevant parties at SHBC and the Executive Team at Accent with an anonymised sample of some of the comments, to highlight the current unhappiness. I know Cllr Lewis Mears has also contacted the team.'

Do they really believe it will make any difference?. More promises of change and improvement will come forth. The truth is Accent do not have the capability or will to improve services. Numerous leaseholders have taken on the Right To Manage and left Accent. Unfortunately for tenants this is not a choice.

We ve just had a guy from Ian Williams turn up handed my husband a mould kit, my husband said yes and what do you want me to do with it, he replied “I dunno”

(We've reported the mould in our home someone was down to come and fix)

Then my husband watched the guy sit in his van drinking a coffee on his phone for app 20/25 mins (the time the job would take) then left

I had a leak in my one bed flat in may and they come out at 1am in morning took my light fittings down and fire alarms and I still have no fire alarm at mount and mould where it was leaking they are not interested

Here's the SLT. When I attempted to escalate my complaint to one of these.. (Paul Dolan or Alex Liburd)..they just batted it back to Accent South and it pretty much got ignored by everybody, so I hope you have more luck.

S.G. I've been waiting since covid for a new radiator, they been out numerous of times and cancelled. When I finally got through they had nothing for 5 weeks. I'm sure they'll cancel again.

J.M. I had new toilet put in downstairs, even though I reported before that the tiles on floor are lifting up& cracked, so workmen put toilet on a broken tiles floor ? Left holes in wall black walls from dust & wobbly loo! Came eventually bak out tighten loo , then another time& workman filled in holes, BUT since I first reported tiles before last summer there still waiting to be done , had many cancellations, wen been out said it needs asbestos testing, then wen you speak to council they say it don’t, then workmen been out 3 times since saying no needs checking before they can do the flooring!!!!!!! I give up

E.R. They don't fix anything ! Their plumber broke my bath panel yet they will fix it and charge me 70 pounds? I have so much that needs doing and they delete anything reported online or say its down to me ...

I.M. I was on phone today. I waited 1.5 hours for them to answer. My number was 40 in the que. A boiler without a working PCB board! Emergency app made today with boiler company they use, guess what, no one showed up! So I’m going to gas safety as my boiler cannot detect faults or regulate the thermostat. I have had enough!

I phone about the tree in my garden what’s bending over on the fence as I paid to get new fence up as when I moved in this house I was told I could not take tree down but I could cut branches off what’s in my garden there all in next door garden they have small children who plays in garden they hat to move there trampoline as when we had the winds the other week I phone and got put on to some women who told me it’s my property I have to deal with it myself I told her it’s Accent property not mine if the tree move any more it would hurt somebody and I paid for my fencing it’s a joke getting told this.

Just had a nasty call saying they want me to pay £660 a month to get into a months advance on my rent over the next 15 months

Dont mind my unsafe garden,broken toilet,windows that dont open or close. Fuming is soft.

Does anyone working for Accent Housing actually answer the phone??

I was supposed to have the “new surveyor “ come again today after coming a month ago to monitor the cracks ( he booked in for the nxt 2 months while he was at my property 21st September )I’ve got in my house after moving out a yr ago for 8 weeks for them to repair under the council’s insurance….

Well no sooner had I moved back in they all reappeared and unless I call up, no body comes out!

So I called at 3:55 as he was supposed to be here between 3-4, I was on hold for 45 minutes without speaking to someone so I’ve called back and was on hold this time for a total of 1hr 19 mins starting at position 5, then down to position 1 for 35 minutes without speaking to anyone again….. so I’ve hung up again! and they wonder why us residents are so annoyed with the service we receive!

Got to love accent housing. Even managing to cut the grass is beyond them...

K.J. the whole no whatever month it is, is a load of cobblers. Spoke to accent multiple times and just the usual excuses. Spoke to the guys who where cutting the grass in the next block and we aren't on the list apparently

Yet again I have been let down by accent peerless & their contractor 14 mths of waiting for a shower to be fitted I foolishly thought today they would get it right

plumber turns up at 9.15 disappears for over 1hr to get parts fits said shower unable to do the electrics, no electrician to do the wiring as I was promised this would be completed today I put in several phone calls & politely putting lost it with them , as another of my annual leave is wasted,

Long & short of it I now have a shower I can't use .Another call and when I said they were useless at doing their job & therefore I am now going to get in a private contractor and would be billing them ,they had the audacity to say I would be in breach of my tenancy agreement!!!!.

When will someone take responsibility for their lack of competency, poor communication, lack of respect & common decency?

Lin Palmer just tells you it's condensation, even though we had penetrating damp on 1 side which ended up with the kitchen being removed 6 years later.

They need to employ decent staff who know what they are doing. We still have major mould problems on that side on the house.

Every time it rains I have water running down my living room walls. My adjoining neighbour has been reporting it since the 1970’s when they took the coal fires out! Seriously the houses are fit for purpose!

They passed our gas check when we moved in. It turned out we had 2 gas leaks. One inside at the wall and one in the box outside. Luckily my partner could smell the gas

...it seems to be a big issue and not a lot is getting done about it. I'm done with emails and complaint procedures and being sent round in circles as are most of the tenants

Totally useless! Nothing changes!

I’ve had to call them myself to ensure an emergency job has been actioned. It’s a fire exit and serious issues! Only to find out, the emergency job sent by Accent to Ian Williams was just sitting in an email folder and NOT BEING ACTIONED OR PASSED ONTO the PLANNERS! Nothing has changed YET AGAIN! Anyone else about to rip their hair out?!

I for one am sick of hearing the same excuses.

This is the case with Accent Housing all over the country!!! Not just here! Photos of peoples homes I’ve seen up and down the country make me want to cry.

I have terrible issues however there are so many suffering at the hands of this housing association. They will continue to get away with it if we don’t act and get justice. I am not prepared to sit back quiet and take this abuse. This is illegal what’s happening across the county and how they gotten away with it this long I don’t know! I myself am taking legal action I’m officially done!

They don't care about the repairs but you don't pay your rent they are on your case. Even if you say your holding rent because of the repairs, it doesn't happen any quicker. Just non stop on at you until you pay.

The issue is the contractor has their hands tied as Accent refuse to pay for repairs that are needed. They prefer patch up bodge jobs.

One contractor told me a couple of years ago that staff were leaving because of Accent.

One went to see a front door that had a hole in it, and because fire regulations had changed since the door was fitted, it had to be replaced. However Accent refused this and told the contractor to repair it.

The old saying if you pay peanuts...... 🙄

oh and my bathroom walls deep cracks plaster fell off, that took 3 months to fix,

I’m waiting on a heating appointment tomorrow to fix the motor on my heating so I can have the radiators on, I bloody hate this house and the fact I’m reporting all repairs and I get no help from accent.

A mouldy old damp wet house and I’ve only been here since April 2021 so the void team and accent should have made the house good. Even the external brickwork needs repointing and every 4th brick has a hole in it and is missing mortar 🤷‍♀️

I’ve just been given a £500 energy bill from edf energy for 4 weeks usage 🌚 because it’s so bloody cold and I’m running dehumidifiers in bedrooms to dry out the ceilings.

We were out heat are gas boiler had a fault on it . We waited 3weeks in the end we got in touch with a local Councillor some came out but it still went wrong the radiators was half warm so we rung up again someone fix our switch.

In another 2 weeks later it went again my husband was on the phone 1hr in morning 2hours in afternoon and 2hrs at evening. In the mean time a friend came out and sorted it out.

We are both in our 70years.

I've got black mould in both bedrooms, the bathroom and at the top of my landing ,all on external walls and no amount of cleaning gets rid of it as it just comes back.

Ive reported it many times and all the help I was given was a mould kit which hasn't worked.So I've been in touch with environmental health over it.

Thats just one of many problems with my house.

It seems no body cares and I'm sure they all live in lovely homes and wouldn't live in homes they are expecting everyone else to.

I had a leak under my bath I moved in with and it came through my neighbour ceiling! They still didn’t do it as an emergency, turns out the leak had been on going 3 years and reported numerous times.

As well as mould covered my property and they just painted over it so I couldn’t see it.

Also have a piece of wood drilled into the ceiling I moved in with and now brown water is leaking through it. So sick of there neglect and bodge jobs when you can even get them out it’s never fixed right. I’m having my bathroom ripped out due to dodgey pipe work none of my sinks drain or my bath, broken boiler,

I’ve never cried so many tears over it!

Cllr Shaun Garrett you would be forever interceding in the local tenants complaints about housing issues this shouldn't be necessary,

I should be listened to , respected & acknowledged in my own right.

It is a human right ,I am fortunate to not require an advocate, I am educated, articulate & have mental capacity , I hold down 3 jobs pay my rent & council tax on time & have never defaulted on this.

My annual leave shouldn't be wasted on waiting for workmen who don't show up, turn up not skilled to carry out the work, no materials to do the work, wrong job sheet to name a few.

I have emailed, called , put in complaints & have been fobbed off & pacified with empty Promises.

It is the principle that no one within the organisation can be relied upon to carry out their contract able responsibilities. Within any other organisation people would be sacked and the company would be sued for breach of contract.
