In 2015 The Leyland Hub facebook group was set up for the town of Leyland. On 29th November 2019 a single question was raised on that site over a simple thing of fitting a kitchen provided by Accent Housing and undertaken by the contractor Mears. There were sixty replies to that one question. Some are printed below.
Is anyone else on here in an accent housing property having a new kitchen fitted and having problems with mears regarding working standards and timescales?
We had a new kitchen in september ripped the kitchen out and put the new cupboards in while at work they left no space for chest freezer which is now in the dinning room and had to by new plates as the old ones were to dig and the doors would not shut not happy
Mine was supposed to be completed today, still no floor, sockets not fully in the walls. Grout everywhere, paint everywhere.
I might tell them to bugger off and I’ll get it done myself like with the bathroom
I had mine done 2 years ago. The bathroom flooring is all stained with something yellow and they haven’t sealed anything very well either.. they scratched all my cupboard doors for the kitchen which look daft and rushed everything
they have been a lot more tidy with mine....they brushed all the rubbish under the units before they put the plinths on....I only noticed this when I had to remove them when I got rained on from the kitchen they where fitting upstairs
They’ve done that too and under the bath.. like there’s just no need is there.. just laziness pffftt!!
It does, it also flakes off the wall. I tried to tell them you can’t paint over dulux kitchen paint with your cheap shit but they did it anyway. Took me ages to repaint!
yep mine needs doing again and I asked them not to paint it
It’s got to the point I don’t want them in my house anymore, would rather try and sort it myself then ring them.
you wanna see the bath board they replaced, one long piece of cardboard basically. I've lived he nearly 24 years, paid over 140,000 pound in rent and they give me cardboard,
14 years for me and I don’t want to even think what I’ve payed, it’s so unfair being trapped in this market, if that’s what you call it.
Broke my washing machine, scratched the hob (badly) on my brand new cooker. Failed to place dust sheets and left doors open throughout the house, thick dust everywhere, including my computer.
I have damp in a wall caused by a very poor and ill fitting bath which they did and it’s still not sorted. No worries they said, we will come and damp proof, possibly take out the plasterboard that’s damp and replace it and what did he do? Cleaned it with a bottle of bathroom mildew remover
that's exactly my thoughts mears seem to think people in social housing are the lowest of the low and at one point even raised a giggle from one if the guys I spoke to on the phone.quite shocking.
first and foremost the properties are people's homes.in a way I'm actually relieved that it's not just me receiving this treatment but knowing what it's like I also feel so sorry for you as I know what you are going through.
I know for a fact that do. A few years back they came round to paint a facia board. They painted round some ivy that was in the way.
I watched them do next door which is private and the ivy got taken down then painted. I went out and asked, his reply, he’s payed for it himself privately. What the difference I said, he couldn’t answer.
Silly me ended up paying him cash in hand to do a proper job and take the ivy down and paint it properly
Had mine about a year and a half ago, they completely wrecked my wood flooring in my dining area, completely cut through a few pieces 🤦♀️
Yes, and they broke the legs on my cooker, still waiting for them to get new legs or a new cooker. I have opened a case with resolver and it will end up going to the social rented housing repairs ombudsmen
Accent an mears are awful, plastering when we had new bathroom put it in was terrible, sink not firmly on so had to do myself.
We had ours done a few months back, workers admitted rushing jobs so they could finish earlier, one damaged the NEW cupboard door when bringing it in and were still awaiting a replacement!!
We had ours done a couple of years ago and they were not any bloody good then.. Cut corners.. Broke my washing machine. The only decent part of my kitchen is the tiling
